This project involved graphic design for print as well as social media, filming, editing and landscape photography of some key elements regarding the history of Iron Curtain as well as the fest in the village of Bardhaj in Rrajcë. The European Green Belt Day is celebrated every year to bring biodiversity and cultural heritage into focus for everyone, in the regions along the former Iron Curtain, which also includes the Shebenik National Park. The European Green Belt extends over 12,500 km and provides a corridor of habitats with exceptional biodiversity.
The Green Belt runs along the former Iron Curtain, from the Barents Sea to the Black Sea, spanning some of the most important habitats for biodiversity and almost all distinct biogeographical regions in Europe. By following a course that was in large sections part of the former east-western border – one of the most divisive barriers in history for nearly 40 years– it symbolizes the global effort for joint, cross border activities in nature conservation and sustainable development.
The Jablanica-Shebenik mountain range connects diverse habitats and allows animals to move from patch to patch, facilitating the passage of wildlife and resources. The mountain landscape, with its well-preserved beech forests and extensive alpine mats, is home to endemic plant species such as the Balkan violet, the Jablanica campion and the Albanian lily. The region plays an essential role in maintaining and connecting the populations of brown bear, gray wolf and Balkan lynx. Rrajca, with its rich traditions, offers to all participants, not only a wonderful landscape, but also a fair with traditional products, songs, dances and games.
