More info about the project

This project encompassed graphic design for print and social media, video production and editing, as well as landscape photography documenting key elements of the history of the Iron Curtain and the annual festival held in the village of Bardhaj in Rrajcë. The work was developed in the context of European Green Belt Day, an annual initiative aimed at highlighting biodiversity and cultural heritage in regions located along the former Iron Curtain, including Shebenik National Park. The European Green Belt extends over approximately 12,500 kilometers, forming a continuous ecological corridor of exceptional biodiversity.

Stretching from the Barents Sea to the Black Sea, the Green Belt follows the route of the former Iron Curtain and spans nearly all of Europe’s major biogeographical regions. Once one of the most restrictive and divisive borders in history for nearly four decades, this corridor has been transformed into a powerful symbol of cross-border cooperation in nature conservation and sustainable development.

The Jablanica–Shebenik mountain range plays a vital role in this network by connecting diverse habitats and enabling the movement of wildlife between ecological patches. Characterized by well-preserved beech forests and extensive alpine meadows, the area hosts several endemic plant species, including the Balkan violet, the Jablanica campion, and the Albanian lily. The region is also essential for sustaining and connecting populations of brown bear, gray wolf, and Balkan lynx. The village of Rrajcë, with its rich cultural traditions, complements the natural landscape by offering participants a local fair featuring traditional products, music, dances, and games.
